How I work

I have been photographing people around Sioux Falls for eight years, and the frame I am always waiting for is the one nobody planned. A glance between two people who have forgotten I am in the room. The laugh that lands a second after the joke. You will get the posed ones too, but those are rarely the pictures you are still looking at in twenty years.

So sessions are built to leave room for it. I give you something to do rather than a pose to hold, I tell you when something is working, and if a child needs ten minutes then we take ten minutes. Almost everyone warns me beforehand that they are terrible at having their photograph taken. Nobody has been yet. Away from the camera I am usually reading, painting, or working my way through the local thrift shops.

What I would really like is to be your photographer for the long run: the engagement, then the wedding, then the first baby, then the year one of them turns eighteen. Weddings begin with a conversation and a timeline we build together, a sneak peek within 48 hours and the full gallery inside six weeks. Every other session comes back within two weeks.
